How Much Cannabis Can I Buy in Colorado?

How Much Cannabis Can I Buy in Colorado?

Wondering how much weed you can buy in Colorado? While all the numbers can seem a little confusing at first, there’s no need to worry. We’ve got a breakdown to help you understand the legal limits, and what some different quantities could look like as you walk out the door.

Cannabis Purchase Limits

As of June 2016, Colorado residents and tourists aged 21+ can legally purchase 1 ounce (28 grams) of cannabis flower. But how much cannabis product can you actually purchase in a dispensary? That depends on which products you want to buy. There is no limit on the amount of cannabis topicals you can purchase. But if you want to buy flower, edibles, concentrates or vape cartridges, here is the maximum you are allowed to purchase in one day:

You can mix and match these products to reach your daily limit of 28 grams. Adding it all up can seem a bit intimidating, but don’t worry -- our budtenders will do it for you! Or if you order ahead online, the computer does the math and lets you know once you’ve reached your limit. :)

1 ounce, 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/8 ounce marijuana

We’ve broken down some mix and match scenarios totaling the 1 ounce limit to give you an idea of what your purchase might look like and what you can expect from it at home.

What does one ounce of marijuana look like?

As we stated above, the legal limit for purchasing cannabis flower at any one time is 1 ounce (28 g). This is equivalent to 8 grams of concentrate, 800 mg of edibles, or 8,000 mg vape oil.

So how might this limit look as you walk out of the dispensary with your products? Here are a few examples.

1. You might choose to reach your limit just by purchasing a full 1 ounce supply of flower.

An ounce of flower typically produces about 35 joints that use .8g flower, but this will vary depending on the size of joints you roll.

If you enjoy smoking bowls, you’ll be able to pack about 56 .5g size bowls with your purchase.

2. Or maybe you want to purchase the maximum of 8 grams of concentrate to reach your limit.

If you decided to go full-on with concentrates to reach your limit, the number of dabs you’d enjoy would depend on the size of dabs you take.

A small dab is about .025 g to .5 g of concentrate. So that would give you anywhere from 16 to 32 dabs, depending on how large of a dab you take. Remember that concentrates are a lot more potent than flower, so a little goes a long way.

3. You could go all-in with edibles - 800 mg.

Edibles are often sold in 100 mg packages which include ten 10 mg servings. So, in this case, you could buy 8 packages (80 servings) of edibles, like gummies or chocolates.

4. Or you could reach your limit with just vapes - 8000 mg.

Vape pens and cartridges come in 300 mg, 500 mg or 1000 mg. 500 mg tends to be the most common so that means you could buy sixteen 500 mg or eight 1 g pens, cartridges, or pods.

5. You could go half and half with ½ ounce of flower along with 4 grams of concentrate.

Concentrates are typically sold in 1 g increments so you could mix and match your wax, shatter, live resin, and distillate in addition to your ½ oz flower.

6. Or you could try a bit of everything!

You could get a little bit of everything to reach the 1 oz. limit:

1/4 ounce marijuana flower, 2 grams cannabis concentrates, 200 mg edible chocolates, 2000 vape pens

  • ¼ ounce (7 g) flower,
  • 2 grams concentrate,
  • 200 mg edibles, and
  • 2,000 mg vapes

These are by no means the only way to go about reaching any amount through mixing and matching. But hopefully, this gives you an idea of what your purchase might look like and what you can expect.
