Purpose

 

LivWell Michigan, Michigans state of the art cultivation facility, has an exciting job opportunity for an experienced Safety Coordinator.  This full-time position is responsible for managing and leading LivWell Michigans safety program.  Working under the Manager of Safety and Quality Assurance, this person will also be responsible for ensuring employee health, safety and compliance with various State and Federal regulations regarding workplace hazards.  The essential aim of the Safety Coordinator is to minimize occupational injuries, accidents and health problems and promote a safe work environment for all employees. 

 

Essential Duties

 

Safety

  • Conduct routine inspections of company cultivation and retail facilities to ensure employee health and safety.
  • Establish and complete monthly safety report.
  • Review and maintain existing written programs and updating as needed.
  • Conduct safety training as needed.
    • Worker Protection Standard
    • Facility equipment training
    • Forklift, scissor lift, narrow aisle trucks, electric walk behind pallet jack, etc.
    • Assessing risk and possible safety hazards in all aspects of operations.
    • Inspect production equipment and processes to ensure safety.
    • Inspect processing equipment and processes to ensure safety.
    • Conduct investigations into workplace injuries and report back to Manager of Safety and Quality Assurance to ensure appropriate changes or corrections are implemented to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Interface with Worker’s Compensation insurance provider to ensure proper handling of Worker Compensation claims.
    • Interface with doctors at company designated medical providers regarding employee injuries and potential work restrictions.
    • Communication with injured employees to ensure proper care.
    • Facilitate the return to work process for injured employees and work with all departments to ensure work restrictions are being met.

 

Compliance

  • Annual training/audit to ensure Worker Protection Standard compliance.
  • Annual respirator fit testing and training.
  • Conduct regular site visits to locations to ensure OSHA and company safety compliance.
  • Annual review of written safety programs to ensure accuracy.

 

Regulatory

  • Work closely with Worker’s Compensation Insurance provider to ensure efficient and effective claim management.
  • SARA Title II annual submission if applicable.
  • Annual Worker Protection Standard training to ensure compliance with EPA and Michigan Department of Agriculture regulations.
  • Annual electronic OSHA report submission.

 

Systems

  • Provide leadership and direction to departmental employees to ensure safe work practices across all facilities.

 

Project Management

  • Develop and manage projects, including defining project scope, resources and achieving deliverables on time and within budget.

 

Other Duties

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervision

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Manager of Safety and Quality Assurance.
  • This person does not supervise others.

 

Job Qualifications

 

Work Experience

  • Basic understanding of State Worker’s Compensation Laws.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and onsite inspection procedures.
  • Knowledge of The Worker Protection Standard.
  • Knowledge of written safety programs.

 

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Working Conditions

  • Able to use a computer for extended periods of time.

  • Able to perform general office managerial and administrative activities.
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Regular and on-time attendance.
  • Hours regularly exceed 40 hours per week.
  • Occasional travel by motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required.
