Colorado has unique cannabis laws for marijuana enthusiasts. Before visiting a dispensary, make sure you meet the following requirements:

  • You must be 21 years old.
  • You must have a valid, government-issued photo ID.

What Are the Cannabis Purchase & Possession Limits in Colorado?

Colorado has specific purchase limits in place for both residents and visitors to ensure everyone is able to enjoy their marijuana responsibly.

Adult-use shoppers are able to purchase:

  • Up to 1 ounce of marijuana flower; OR
  • Up to 8 grams of concentrate; OR
  • Up to 800 milligrams of edibles; OR
  • Up to 8,000 milligrams of vapes.

You also have the option of doing a combination of those limits. For example, you can have half an ounce of cannabis, two single-gram vape cartridges, and a couple edible chocolate bars. 

Possession Limits

In Colorado, you are allowed to possess up to two ounces of marijuana at a time—double the purchase limit—whether you’re a recreational marijuana consumer or a medical marijuana patient.

Where Can I Use Recreational Cannabis in Colorado?

Smoking or any other form of cannabis consumption in Colorado is limited to private property, including your home, backyard, or any other privately owned area that is out of view of the public. Marijuana is not permitted in the following scenarios: 

  • Public or federal land, including national parks
  • Hotels, cabins, or rental properties
  • Ski resorts
  • Any motor vehicle
  • Around a minor
  • Traveling across state lines
